Ultimately, Dr. Notash gave us tentative approval of smart home idea with a focus on the creation of a few smart devices and a goal of creating a more network secure smart home. Dr. Notash, suggested consulting Dr. Chisholm as an expert on cybersecurity after which he would give formal approval of our idea.

November 13, 2017

Dr. Notash called for a meeting on this day to go over our progress on the report. We provided a status report of our progress on the overall project concept and informed him that our research was proceeding at a good pace and that there were no major problems to report. Dr. Notash suggested that we should contact a former student of his, Saad, who has some experience in home automation and consult with him.

On this day, we had a meeting with Dr. Chisholm to further discuss the project ideas we were planning to work on. We also spoke in regard to network structure and our planned approach for how we would have our smart devices communicate over Wi-Fi.

November 21, 2017

Met with Dr. Ejaz and Dr. Chisholm this day to receive additional input on the scope of our project and ensure that it was sufficient enough to meet with the expectations of the degree program for a senior design. Dr. Ejaz agreed that our project did in fact cover a satisfactory amount of both hardware and software and would in his eyes be a worthy idea to pursue. Dr. Ejaz and Dr. Chisholm also suggested that perhaps we should scale back our idea for multiple smart devices to ensure that future time restrictions would be met.

December 5, 2017

Last meeting with Dr. Notash before project proposal, we present our rough draft of the proposal and received input on fixes and editing that could be done to the final draft.
